What is Emperor's
ROYAL WARRANT ?

"Royal Warrant" is the honourable title given to Japan's traditional brands the Emperor has personally appointed to use.

He granted Royal Warrants to only the finest brands whose goods or services demonstrate excellence and quality.

For over 90 years, we have been serving all the lacquerware used at His Imperial Household.

What It Means to Be Appointed
as Emperor's Favourite

His Imperial Majesty entitles Royal Warrants to no more brands today, marking 1954 the last.

This means that as one of the oldest existing Royal Warrant holder since 1919, we have been creating best quality items and fulfilling the Emperor's most selective taste for nearly a century.

Being Imperial is the proof of perfection in our lacquerware. We are very proud to be the holder of such prestigious Royal Warrant.

Founder: Konosuke Yamada

Our founder Konosuke Yamada has long been inspired by delicate beauty in Japanese lacquerware.

He went through years of training to become a professional lacquer artisan himself, and then opened his own store in Tokyo, the center of Japan, in 1919.

His lacquerware soon became famous for its elegance in design and bright colour. They captured hearts of the Japanese, including the Emperor.

Messages from CEO

It's been 20 years since I succeeded the brand, but our items have been around far longer - many for 50 years, some for nearly a century. Over those years, artisans change from a generation to a generation and keeping the same quality becomes harder and harder. Creating the "same" item is not an easy mission, I must say.

Current items have gone over such difficulty and they've been available for 50 years. I think it's wonderful that our artisans still hold the "same" passion to create them. Being an artisan myself, lacquerware have this certain sense of charm.

Kenta Yamada,
CEO of YAMADA HEIANDO

"[Yamada Heiando] created a Special Chocolate box in lacquer for President Obama with a collaboration to his favorite brand Fran's. His products are not only extremely beautiful, they are hand made with Japanese lacquer [...] of the best refinement, and in thick layers - which is also a gage of quality given that the lacquer is a very rare material."

"I love Yamada Heiando. [...] This fantastic place has modern and traditional items, and they do represent, in their own way, something we are so proud of as French: Art de Vivre. Japanese tradition brought to modern times."

"Their main shop is in Daikanyama Terrace Hills (G), between Le Cordon Bleu and T-site [...] To me Yamada Heiando is, as much as Le Cordon Bleu, an ambassador for the Master of Excellence.

We Have Been Telling
Story of Arts in Life for 100 Years.

Our mission is to tell the hidden story of lacquerware so that more people will have a chance to feel the arts and discover beauty inside.

For such belief, we use only the best materials for our best craftsmen to work in. Genuine URUSHI lacquer in red and black, sparkling MAKI-E gilding in gold, and delicate RADEN inlays of mother-of-pearls are just a few examples.

We hold pride in posessing such techniques of Japanese traditions, still as unique as they were centuries ago.
