  • This is a pair of lacquered chopsticks decorated with golden rice ears in Maki-e.

The design features golden rice ears rendered in Maki-e, a traditional Japanese decorative technique in which metallic powders are dusted onto a lacquered surface. The rice ear has been cherished in Japan since ancient times as a symbol of abundance and harvest. As the grain from which rice is born sustains the Japanese table, the motif also carries a wish for prosperity and a wholesome life.
